Team Saxo Bank’s Nicki Sorensen surprised himself and the peloton today by winning stage 12 in the Tour de France, his first stage victory in seven attempts.
Nicki Sorensen initiated a break that included Franco Pellizotti (Liquigas), KOM leader Egoi Martinez (Euskaltel), and Laurent Lefèvre (BBox) who came in second, further establishing France’s stellar showing in the ’09 Tour.
Today marked Sorensen’s first victory since becoming the Champion of Denmark last year. He crossed the line with his arms high and an expression of shock and awe.
