The peloton heads eastwards as the Tour route traverses central France. Barring the largely processional last stage into Paris, Vittel is as far north as the riders will come this year, meaning the the cycling mad northern reaches of the country are left untouched by the 2009 Tour's route. Six small classified climbs feature on Stage 12, again nothing too troublesome, meaning for the second successive day we should be in for a sprint finish and another important day for the Green Jersey contenders. And they better be paying attention, because their pickings are about to get a little slim.
