Nicki Sorensen captured his first ever stage at the Tour de France on Thursday, finishing the Stage 12 131-mile trek 48 seconds ahead of Laurent Lefevre and well ahead of fellow sprinter Mark Cavendish who was attempting to win his third straight stage and fifth overall.
While Sorensen dominated the flat surface of Stage 12 the overall leaderboard remained unchanged as Rinaldo Nocentini retained his yellow jersey as the events top rider while Astana teammates Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong are in second and third respectively.
Armstrong had to overcome a punctured tire with about 37 miles left in the stage but the seven-time Tour de France winner managed to work his way back to the main pack and finish strong.
