The 2009 Eagleman Triathlon is June 14th in Cambridge Maryland. The Faster Tomorrow team will be on hand supporting the endurance athletes and hosting a tent at the Expo. We will have lots of great information on sports nutrition products and triathlete training information to share with you, but we will not have wet suits!Cambridge is generally warm in June, but don’t let the sunny days of June fool you into thinking the water temperature in the Choptank River will be super warm. The average water temperature for the Eagleman Triathlon is generally between 67-76 degrees. Wet Suits are permitted at the Eagleman Triathlon, so even if the water temperatures are on the cold side, you can still keep the chill off.After riding away from the rest of the men's field, defending Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 world champion Terenzo Bozzone (pictured here) found himself holding on as Richie Cunningham made a huge charge over the closing miles of the run to win today's prestigious Eagleman Ironman 70.3 by just 16 seconds. In the women's race, Natascha Badmann led off the bike, but couldn't hold off Mirinda Carfrae, who ran to the women's title.
Except for an upset loss to Catriona Morrison at St. Croix 70.3, Mirinda Carfrae would have had a perfect season as she dominated the field at the Viterra Ironman 70.3 Calgary where she finished in 4:11:05 for her 5th victory in 6 starts for 2009.Carfrae finished precisely 10 minutes ahead of runner-up Magali Tisseyre of Canada to add to her wins at California Ironman 70.3, the Rev3 half Ironman in Connecticut, Eagleman 70.3, and the Aflac Iron Girl in Atlanta.
Carfrae started the day with a third-best 27:29, then put the hammer down with a race-best 2:20:20 bike and finished it off with a 1:19:45 run that was 2:05 faster than celebrated runner Catriona Morrison and only two minutes slower than men’s winner Timothy O’Donnell.
