The Kenyans have been pretty dominating since the birth of the event in 1998. These runners from Kenya do have tough and quick legs to endure the 6.2 mile race and at the same time bag the championship trophy. In the Men’s Division, nine out of the eleven champions from 1998 to 2008 have been from Kenya.

Gilbert Okari, also from the Obama home country, won the tournament for three consecutive years (2003-2005). In the Women’s division, seven out of the eleven champions were from Kenya. Actually, there were only three Kenyan champs because Catherine Ndereba, an Olympic Marathon Silver medalist, won the tournament five times.


She won from 1998 to 2001, took a break in 2002 and won again in 2003. These Kenyans are really into running. No wonder why Obama won when he ran for presidency. Okay, that was corny.The 10k starts this August 1, at 8am (Maine time). There is also a Kids Fun Run at 9:30am. This event is also done with a great cause because each year, a youth organization is chosen as the event’s beneficiary.

A whopping sum of 30 thousand dollars will be donated to the lucky beneficiary. The TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10k Road Race is encouraging the different youth organizations all over the world to apply for the 2010 race. The application period will run from August 2 to November 9, 2009.
